Basel, 1 December 2025 – The International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) successfully concluded its 83rd Executive Council, Annual Conference and 24th Annual General Meetings (AGM) hosted by the Fundo de Garantia de Depositos in Lisbon. The meetings brought together deposit insurers from around the world to address critical challenges facing financial safety net participants in an era of heightened uncertainty and digital transformation.

Leadership appointment and EXCO elections

The General Assembly re-appointed Alejandro López, CEO of Seguro de Depósitos Sociedad Anónima (SEDESA, Argentina) as IADI President and Chair of the IADI Executive Council (EXCO) for a second term of three years. Mr Lopez’ leadership has been instrumental in driving IADI’s progress as the global standard-setter for deposit insurance systems, and his re-election reflects the confidence and trust of IADI Members in his vision and dedication.

The General Assembly also elected members to the EXCO: Cindy Thompson (Bahamas Deposit Insurance Corporation), Daniel Lima (Fundo Garantidor de Créditos, Brazil), Christa Walker (Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation), Yvonne Fan (Central Deposit Insurance Corporation, Chinese Taipei), Michel Cadelano (Fonds de Garantie des Dépôts et de Résolution, France), Adil Utembayev (Kazakhstan Deposit Insurance Fund, Kazakhstan), Kadyrbek Bukuev (Deposit Protection Agency of the Kyrgyz Republic), Sonja Lill Flø Myklebust (The Norwegian Banks’ Guarantee Fund), Loay Hawash (Palestine Deposit Insurance Corporation), Maciej Szczęsny (Bank Guarantee Fund, Poland), Sabihah Mohamed (Corporation for Deposit Insurance, South Africa), Elif Kösoğlu (Savings Deposit Insurance Fund, Türkiye), and Andrew Felton (Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, United States). This election reaffirms IADI’s commitment to ensuring that the diversity of its membership is reflected in its governance structure.

2026 Work Priorities

The 2026 Work Priorities, approved at the Lisbon 2025 EXCO meeting, build on the achievements of the 2025 work programme and focus on the practical implementation of updated Core Principles, the implications of digitalisation, and the development of a forward-looking strategic framework for the next five years.

IADI will support the comprehensive implementation of the Core Principles by updating the Handbook for the Assessment of Compliance, addressing implementation issues such as crisis management and resolution practices, developing a centralised platform for sharing deposit insurance laws and regulations, and launching a new Core Principles training programme to support Members in achieving compliance.

To ensure deposit insurance systems remain resilient in the digital era, IADI will host a roundtable on digitalisation in 2026, continue its successful webinar series on emerging digital trends, and publish a research paper on the role of deposit insurers in a digital financial ecosystem, including the treatment of e-money and its implications for financial stability.

IADI will also advance ongoing initiatives to strengthen deposit insurance systems globally, including expanding its annual data collection efforts and deepening engagement with international stakeholders.

As the 2022–2026 Strategic Plan concludes, IADI will formulate its Strategic Goals and Objectives for the next five years. This new framework will build on past achievements while addressing emerging trends, with the eight Regional Committees continuing to play a critical role in advancing IADI’s mission through capacity-building and training initiatives.
