IADI Members & Associates only event
The IADI Secretariat is pleased to announce the next presentation in its Digitalisation Webinar Series.
Join us for a discussion on “Dissecting Depositor Flight: An Analysis of the Spring 2023 Bank Failures” with Karyen Chu, Chris Martin and Nick Frazier from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, United States, on Tuesday 7 July 2026 at 13:00 CEST.
The Spring 2023 failures of Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank triggered the most acute episodes of systemic banking stress since the Global Financial Crisis. The unprecedented size and speed of deposit runs during this event have led to renewed focus on depositor behaviour and its implications for the design of deposit insurance systems.
This webinar will feature the recent FDIC Staff Study, which uncovers patterns on depositor run propensities and deposit outflow rates throughout the crisis and its resolution. Utilising granular information from the banks’ core deposit and wire systems at the level of accounts and transfers, the study reveals important heterogeneity in deposit behaviour associated with deposit concentrations, depositor and account types, and insurance coverage policies. Insights from this piece of empirical research will enrich the continued discussions by policymakers and the deposit insurance community.
