	ABOUT THE EVENT It is our pleasure to inform you that the International Association of Deposit Insurers (IADI) 8^th Annual Conference will be hosted by the Financial Stability Institute (FSI), the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision (BCBS) and the IADI. The Conference will highlight the Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems and it will be held on 23-24 September 2009 at the Bank for International Settlements in Basel, Switzerland. IADI 8th Annual Conference, 23-24 September 2009 The theme for this year’s conference recognizes the importance of deposit insurance in protecting depositors, maintaining public confidence and promoting financial stability. The IADI and the BCBS issued on 18 June 2009 an internationally agreed set of Core Principles for Effective Deposit Insurance Systems. The Financial Stability Board (FSB) welcomed these Core Principles at their inaugural meeting on 27 June 2009. The Core Principles are comprehensive in nature, addressing issues of coverage, funding, powers, membership, cross-border cooperation, transitioning from blanket to limited coverage, public awareness, early detection and timely intervention, and resolution, reimbursement of depositors, and recoveries on assets. The objective of this conference is to: · highlight the importance of deposit insurance in promoting and maintaining financial stability; · set out the preconditions and key elements of deposit insurance, using the 18 principles contained within the Core Principles document; · discuss the next steps for implementing and assessing the compliance with the Core Principles; and · emphasize the necessity for close coordination and information-sharing among the deposit insurer and other financial system safety net participants. Consistent with the last objective above, the event will be open to bank supervisors, deposit insurers and central bankers from around the world. We expect the conference to offer a venue for sharing practices and experiences among the various authorities. Registration Please complete the registration form as soon as possible but no later than 20 August 2009. Please note that more than one delegate per agency or organization may attend. IADI Annual General Meeting (AGM) The IADI Annual General Meeting will take place on the afternoon of 24 September, following the conclusion of the Conference.
